tony-evansCNN’s Soledad O’Brien recently interviewed Dr. Tony Evans who is the Senior Pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, TX.  He also is President of The Urban Alternative.  I found this interview to be interesting because I don’t believe I’ve ever seen him interviewed on cultural issues such as President Barack Obama’s recent endorsement of same sex marriage.  While I’m sure he addresses issues, such as marriage, from his pulpit he hasn’t been known as a national spokesperson on the issue.

He said, very clearly, that President Obama is wrong to support same sex marriage.  The argument (at least some of it) he uses wouldn’t necessarily be one you’d use lobbying on the issue (unfortunately); he does make a strong case why Christians shouldn’t embrace same sex marriage and why it shouldn’t be linked to civil rights.  I also believe this is symbolic of the type of push back he’s going to receive from Black churches.
