Rod-Blum

A new poll shows that Rod Blum, Republican nominee for Congress in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, has taken the lead in the race for the open seat being vacated by Rep. Bruce Braley. In the poll, conducted October 1 – 2 by the highly regarded firm The Polling Company, Inc., Blum leads his Democrat opponent, Pat Murphy, 40% – 39% among likely voters.

“This is the third straight poll that shows Rod increasing his support across the district,” said Keegan Conway, campaign spokesman. “Rod’s common sense message of reigniting the economy, which will result in millions of new jobs and higher take home pay, is clearly resonating with swing voters in the district. We will continue to work hard everyday to build on this campaign’s clear momentum.”

Several takeaways from the poll confirm that the race favors Blum:

  • Blum leads by six points, 30 – 24% among the critical self-identified Independent/No Party voter bloc.
  • Blum’s intensity support: Among “definite” voters Blum leads by two points, 30%-28%.
  • Blum leads among voters age 65 and older by a margin of 41%-35%, illustrating that the scare tactics on Social Security and Medicare being used by the Murphy campaign simply are not resonating with First District senior voters.
  • First District voters prefer a Republican congressional representative who will be a check on President Obama’s policies, by a margin of 49% – 40%.

Rod Blum is the Republican nominee for United States Congress in Iowa’s 1st District. A former Iowa Entrepreneur of the Year, Rod graduated with a finance degree from Loras College and received his MBA from the University of Dubuque. A lifelong resident of Dubuque and current owner of Digital Canal Corporation, Rod is married to Karen Blum with five children. For more information please visit: www.RodBlum.com.
