U.S. Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) will return to Iowa for The FAMiLY Leader‘s “Celebrating the Family” banquet on November 18 in Des Moines the organization announced today.

Sasse recently spoke at a Story County Republican fundraiser in July. That was not the only reason he visited Iowa this summer. He also made good on a lost bet from last year’s Iowa-Nebraska football game that required he drive Uber in Des Moines while wearing Hawkeye gear. His two oldest children participated in a triathlon in Des Moines that weekend.

Sasse has not expressed interest in running but visiting Iowa always stokes speculation especially when it is a return visit. In 2016, Sasse rankled party leadership when he said he was unable to support Donald Trump during the general election. Some believe he could challenge the President in 2020.

Sasse has been a critic of President Trump and has been willing to buck the party line, something that many conservatives have appreciated.

“Sen. Sasse is a leader who has withstood heavy fire for sticking to principle, even when it defies D.C. politics,” Bob Vander Plaats, president and CEO of The FAMiLY LEADER said about the announcement. “We are thrilled to welcome the senator to share with our friends and supporters a message of thinking bigger than politics as usual. It’s a timely message that our nation needs to hear.”

The Celebrate the Family banquet is a fundraiser to advance The FAMiLY LEADER’s vision of a revived America that honors God and blesses people. Past Celebrate the Family speakers include Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, WallBuilders President David Barton, and Dr. Ben Carson. This year’s banquet is scheduled for Saturday, November 18, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Downtown Marriott in Des Moines.

Tickets for the event can be reserved here.
